A Brief History Of The Club

T.R.A.C.S (Townsville Radio Aeronautical Control Society) was in existence at the time cyclone ALTHEA, operating from the old field opposite 162 Recce squadron on University Drive.
About 1975 they move to a new field besides Swift's Meat Works, but some members stay at the old field and founded C.H.A.R.M.A
(Castle Hill Amateur Radio Model Aeronauts) which operated there until power lines, houses, etc dictated a move.
Originally a site at Mt Landers on the way to Woodstock was found but objection from and elderly nearby  resident block that. Then in 1989 C.H.A.R.M.A again applied for the Mt Landers site but due to access problems across the relocated railway, the present site at Anthill plains was offered instead.
After moving in and clearing the present runways, town planning approval was obtained to build the present facilities and the area was rezoned Sports and recreation - Model aircraft Flying.
In 1992 the club was renamed Townsville AeroModellers as Castle Hill was now irrelevant, and in August 1993, the club be came incorporated under the present name of "Townsville AeroModellers Society Inc"
